Vrod coolant line
by Editor on 04/29/22
Not sure who thought it was a good idea to do this....
Looks like the bottle lid nipple broke, someone put the upgraded rubber cap/plug on but not the whole replacement bottle.... Then placed this line over the cam cover on the left side, so when it needed to draw from the reservoir it couldn't because it wasn't connected....
Happy it’s an easy fix.

DIY VROD airbox repair
by Editor on 04/18/22
I'll be the first to admit I have zero experience in bodywork....
I've been using this damaged airbox for a few years to mount my camera bag to it cause I didn't care if it got scratched. It's from a bike I parted out that was in an accident. The handlebar and signal light caused a large dent about 1 inch deep at the worst spot during the crash.
Not sure what possessed me to do this today but I cut a window into the inner skin and started massaging it. I don't have any bodywork tools so I improvised with a rubber hammer, a piece of radiator hose, then a BFH and a little swearing...
Got it fairly flush to finish off with a minimal amount of body filler that I'll pick up this week.
*Don't follow me for bodywork tips...LOL

DTT wiring cleanup on VROD
by Editor on 04/05/22
When I was replacing the battery in our carbon fiber VROD, I took a little extra time and cleaned up some wiring for the Daytona Twin Tec tuner. It was originally installed by a HD dealer, they did a good job but I thought it would be better this way.

Vrod Screamin Eagle slip on mufflers. Top p/n 65028-02 Bottom p/n 65015-02
by Editor on 03/31/22
Spent way more time than I care to admit bringing these Screaming Eagle Slip On Mufflers back to life. The chrome looked like it hadn't been polished in years, there were many "road tar freckles" as well as burned on boot marks and lots of muck on the backside. I had them off during the deep cleaning process and when reinstalling them I applied anti seize to the the collector making it easy to fit into place. The next time these come off I'm sure the tech will be glad I did that.

VRSCSE CVO VROD coolant leak
by Editor on 03/30/22
When I got this bike in November I noticed the smell of coolant when it was running, looked through the gap by the side cover and saw there was some in there so went for an hour and half ride. Well probably about half that time was stopping and taking pictures...
Got back home and put it away for the winter.
Throughout the winter I've been restoring a 2003 Vrod and wanted to get that finished before starting to look at the CVO. I topped up the rad over flow bottle, added some in the rad, checked the rad cap, all the clamps then pulled it out into the driveway yesterday. Started it up and still smelt coolant... Damn, was hoping for an easy fix. As the bike engine warmed up everything looked good but just before the fans kicked on I noticed coolant dripping from the bottom left onto the ground. Turned off the bike, did a little swearing then wheeled it back into the garage. Grabbed a flashlight and saw the coolant on the front side of the fins, my first thought was I need a new rad. (more swearing) Then I noticed condensation on the blue paint of the frame, shined the flashlight up and into the bike and found the cause of the leak. Thank goodness this is just a hose problem and not a rad corrosion issue do to electrolysis.
VROD rear wheel installation made easy
by Editor on 03/29/22
It sure is nice to have the rear wheel restoration completed, lots of sanding, polishing and elbow grease but worth it in my opinion.
Installed the rear wheel using a bike lift to get it in the correct position to slide the axle through. Doing it this way is way easier than lowering the bike to the wheel or having a second person helping.
New VROD battery

VROD hard shell saddlebags
by Editor on 03/23/22
These Genuine Harley Davidson hard shell saddlebags and mounts for 02-06 VRODS are extremely difficult to find and fall into the Unicorn parts category. Very happy to have found a set for the 2005 VRSCSE CVO build. The pewter colour may work but I'm considering having them painted to match as well as adding the matching graphics that are on the rear fender.
