Port Mann Bridge Tolls. Treo and ICBC

by Editor on 12/11/13

The new Port Mann Bridge in Vancouver British Columbia is a stunning piece of engineering, but as a toll bridge it needs to work on other aspects than appearance and fully inform users of all costs.

I received my bill from Treo yesterday and was surprised to see a "Licence Plate Processing Fee" for every time I crossed the bridge.
Here's an example:
Nov 9 2013 9:31am.... Westbound.... Toll (Licence Plate)..... small vehicle...$3.00
Nov 9 2013 9:31am.... Westbound.... Licence Plate Processing Fee..... small vehicle...$2.30
Nov 9 2013 12:48pm.... Eastbound.... Toll (Licence Plate)..... small vehicle...$3.00
Nov 9 2013 12:48pm.... Eastbound... Licence Plate Processing Fee..... small vehicle...$2.30

So I called Treo to inquire about the "Licence Plate Processing Fee" and was told that Treo is charged by ICBC for $2.30 for licence plate info. It was at this point the customer service rep informed me that I can avoid this, "Licence Plate Processing Fee" by registering with Treo by giving them my home number.... OK Done.

Please don't mistake this blog post as a "Rant", think of it as my way of helping you understand all the costs of the Port Mann tolls and to learn from my mistake. I thought it was 3 bucks every time I crossed, I had no idea that I had to register to prevent extra charges.....
