Logan Lake ride

by Editor on 08/15/10

Another outstanding day for motorcycle riding in BC, yesterday's ride was to Logan Lake, British Columbia. I didn't exactly take the most direct route there or back for that matter. I left Aldergrove at 11:00am taking the #1 Trans Canada Highway to Hope for gas, then up the #5 Yellowhead Highway to Merritt for my second tank, then I took the 97C, then 97D to Logan Lake. I stopped to take a couple of pictures at the visitor's center of this heavy duty equipment on site. It was a cooker temperature wise and the only shade around was under this massive truck, so that's where I ate my lunch :)

It was donated to the District of Logan Lake by Highland Valley Copper on February 2, 1990.

  • Engine: GM Electromotive, 654 cu. in. per cylinder, 12 cylinder, 2 stroke.
  • Horsepower 2500.
  • Fuel capacity 583 gallons.
  • Height 19 feet 11 inches
  • Width 24 feet 1 inchs.
  • Length 54 feet 3 inches.
  • Gross weight 844,600 pounds
  • Payload 470,000 pounds.
After lunch I stayed on the 97D also called Meadow Creek Road to where it met the Yellowhead Highway, at this junction I decided to take a secondary road to Kamloops, Lac Le Jeune Road. On this road there are three Provincial Parks, Walloper Lake Provincial Park, Lac Le Jeune Provincial Park, and McConnell Lake Provincial Park. After fueling up in Kamloops I took the Princeton-Kamloops Highway back to Merritt. This Highway is also called 5A and it takes you alongside a number of beautiful lakes and rolling hills. Gas stop at Merritt, then back down the #5 to Hope, then back on the #1 towards home. This is where I ran into a problem, the #1 Trans Canada Highway was closed due to a fire and was a virtual parking lot starting at the McCallum Road exit. To make matters worse the Abbotsford International Air Show had ended so there were many extra vehicles looking for an alternate route. Knowing the area helped, I was able to avoid a lot of the congestion by taking a longer route in distance but at least I was moving, getting home around 9:00pm. According to the odometer it was a 738 kilometer day.
