Landslide closes Highway 1
by Editor on 11/29/10
Yesterday I was going to ride out to the landslide site that closed down the Trans Canada Highway (Highway 1) between Chilliwack and Hope, British Columbia. When I left Aldergrove it was 4 degrees Cecilius with snow still on the sides of the road, and seemed to get colder the further I rode into the Fraser Valley. The weather conditions were beginning to take a turn for the worse once I passed Chilliwack, a light rain started and the clouds were ominous looking. With the temperature dropping I was unsure if it was only rain up ahead or if it was freezing rain or snow. I decided to er on the side of caution and not continue the the landslide, I stopped at Prest road, approximately 25 kilometers from the site and took this picture.
The highway runs along side the mountains and the red Astrix marks the direction of the landslide.
