Bikers For Autism ride across Canada

by Editor on 07/12/12

I had the pleasure of meeting James from Bikers For Autism a few days ago while on our ride in the Fraser Canyon. James and his dad are riding across Canada to raise money for autism, I think it's a great cause and would like to share this intro package he sent.

On Sunday, July 29th, 2012, Bikers For Autism will set out on a 39 day coast to coast journey across Canada on Harley Davidson motorcycles to raise awareness & funds in support of Osoyoos Autism Behavioral Centre & Autism Speaks Canada. Bikers for Autism is a passionate father and son team, striving to make a difference in the lives of the people across Canada who are affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder. Inspired by a close family member's journey to raise Jude, their 4 year old son diagnosed with autism. Bikers For Autism are on a mission backed by Canada's biggest non-profit Autism Organization (Autism Speaks Canada) and Trev-Deeley Harley Davidson to spread their message of awareness across an entire country.

The Motorcycle ride will begin in Vancouver, BC and finish 8,000+ kilometers later in St. John's, Newfoundland. To kick-off the ride in style Trev-Deeley Harley Davidson Boundary rd location has made Bikers For Autism an honorary guest at their 95 th Anniversary Party taking place July,29/201 from 11am to 3pm.  At 3pm sharp, Bikers For Autism will be riding out of the city accompanied by 100+ Bikes and a Vancouver Police Department escort. With Autism awareness events being hosted at Harley Davidson dealerships in Toronto and St Johns, Part of the proceeds raised from the Bikers For Autism events will go directly to Jude's Osoyoos Autism Behavioural Centre and partial funds will go directly to Autism Speaks Canada in support of their mission.

In Canada, one in 88 children, and one in 54 boys are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.

Autism Speaks Canada is dedicated to funding global research of the causes, prevention, treatments, and future cure for autism.  By raising public awareness about autism and its effects on individuals, families and society, Autism Speaks Canada brings hope to the vast amount of Canadians affected by the hardships of the disorder. Autism Speaks Canada has been committed to raising funds to support these goals since 2005. Canadian autism researchers are working collaboratively with health care practitioners across the world to find the answers to the autism puzzle. Autism Speaks Canada aims to bring the autism community together as one strong voice to urge the government and private sector to listen to our concerns and take action beyond Canadian borders, to address this urgent health crisis on a global scale.

Our immediate goal is to raise awareness about Autism Speaks Canada and its programs in conjunction with the Bikers For Autism’s ride across Canada, through the use of multiple social media interfaces. Bikers for Autism employs and engages Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Foursquare, Instagram & also the official donation Bikers For Autism website page.  We have been working closely with a team of representatives from Autism Speaks Canada, Harley Davidson and longtime Vancouver promoters towards organizing press releases, media interviews, radio broadcast(S) and Autism event(S) in several major cities across Canada. Thus far, there will be Bikers For Autism events in cities including Vancouver, Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal and St Johns.
To raise funds for O.A.B.C/Autism Speaks Canada, We will be selling Bikers For Autism T-shirts, custom silicon bracelets and hosting 50/50 draws.

There will also be a pre-kickoff event happening on Sunday, July 22, 2012. A concert featuring local talent, as well as a silent auction, will be held at Shark Club Vancouver. Presented by 100.5 The Peak and Okanagan Springs, the concert promises an exciting night of music featuring The Boom Booms and Star Captains. The silent auction will feature prizes from Harley Davidson, Harbourside Institute of Technology, local businesses, pubs, restaurants and night clubs from around Vancouver.
