Vrod upper & lower steering head races
by Editor on 04/13/23
I'm in the home stretch of this 15 month long restoration of the 2005 VRSCSE CVO VROD and in during the triple tree swap I intended to install new bearings but was surprised to see the condition of the upper & lower races...
The upper one isn't too bad but the lower is quite pitted, the surprising part was that the bearings looked in pretty good condition. It's usually the other way around where the bearings are trashed & the races are still usable.
Now I'll need to order the special tool to remove the old ones and install the new races.

VROD exhaust install made easy
by Editor on 04/03/23
Red and green arrows represent the mating surfaces of the mufflers to the volume collector. Both were sanded smooth with 400 grit sandpaper, then cleaned with AutoSol, then a healthy dose of Antisieze. Same was done to both ended of the volume collector, mating header pipe, and in doing so assembly and alignment was a breeze.
Just another thing checked off the "Things to Do List" on the VRSCSE CVO VROD.
Deca ETX Sports Power battery
by Editor on 04/02/23
12.7 is pretty good but according to the Harley-Davidson service manual 12.8 is 100% charged and 12.6 is 75%. I'm going to put it on the charger to get it up to 100% before it goes back in the 2005 VRSCSE CVO VROD.

VROD water pump
by Editor on 03/30/23
The original water pump and housing was still working but it wasn't in the best condition. Instead of spend a lot of time trying to clean it up and remove the corrosion on the mating surfaces I decided to use one from a 2003 Vrod that I had on hand that was in excellent condition.

VROD chrome starter
by Editor on 03/20/23
Well against my better judgement I went on eBay to look for Vrod parts and stumbled across this chrome starter. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the OEM starter that's currently in the 2005 VRSCSE CVO VROD but it isn't chrome.
The starter takes up a pretty large chunk of real estate on the engine so it'll really stand out when installed.
