Vrod fall away procedure

by Editor on 07/26/23

Setting of the the adjusting nut on the steering head bearings should be easy enough but I found reading the service manual quite confusing on it. The distance of allowable movement and where the movement begins versus where it actually falls away. The manual also says to loosen the pinch bolts of triple trees BUT they don't say it's just the 2 lower ones...

So I decided to post a video on my Facebook page being a lot of Vrod owners follow me there. That was both helpful and more confusing considering two Vrod guys who are well respected mechanics had different opinions, one said it was too tight and the other said it was too loose...
I have removed both the side cover to prevent the wiring tainting the test and I should mention that I have a full and smooth range of motion turning the handlebars all the way left and all the way right.

So I've decided to leave it as is and take it for a test ride, if it has a "Clunk" on acceleration or on deceleration, or hitting a bump, or speed wobble,  I will know it's too loose. If it's too tight I will shorten the life of the bearings.

here's a pic of the process.
(of course the VRIDETV guy uses a tripod to hold the pointer. lol)
